The Village
Located at the mouth of the Avon Estuary, Bantham is a quiet, unspoilt and picturesque village within the South Hams, an Area of Outstanding National Beauty. The area is popular with walkers, being on the route of the South West Coast Path and the new South Hams Way. This 100 mile circular walk in ten sections takes in the varied scenery and terrain of the area from the coast and river estuaries through the rolling hills and valleys to the wilds of Dartmoor.
At the heart of the village is the 14th century Sloop Inn. Open daily for lunch and dinner, and now also serving breakfast at weekends. Bantham Stores is a small, independent store and cafe selling fresh bread and a range of quality food items, household goods, and beach things. The café has a terrace with great views overlooking the river estuary, serving breakfast, lunch, great coffee and home-made cakes. Opening hours vary throughout the year.
